Pair of Georgian Back -to- Front Day/Nite Earrings
Georgian Earrings Circa. 1830 United Kingdom
Back to front ear wires were common during the Georgian era. The lower section of the earring is removable which leaves the round french jet (faceted glass) upper section for daytime use. Add the lower "drop" for formal, evening wear. The metal is brass.
We believe the lower section is a replacement.....possibly Victorian era. The original drop could have been damaged and this was what a jeweler in Victorian England replaced it with. Both parts are definitely antique.
2 1/4 inches long for evening. 3/8 inch in diameter for day time. Only 4.4 g. for the complete pair.
In excellent original condition
