Pair of Victorian Bog Oak 3" Earrings              Circa. 1870            Ireland

Irish bog oak aka. bogwood earrings.    Bog oak is a fossilized oak wood found in peat marshes in Ireland.   It was used extensively to make mourning jewelry during the Victorian era.   Carved by hand, these were always a desirable product.  They are black in color and appear to be hardly ever worn.   

We have added silicone backs to prevent the possibility of loss

Each earring measures 3 inches long  with ear wire.   1/2 inch wide, at its widest.   Weight is 13.7 g.    8.8 dwt
