Pair of Mid-19th Century French Cut Steel Earrings     Circa. 1850-1860

Gorgeous, slim pair of 3 1/4 inch cut steel earrings.  Looks like bananas on the stem!   Sterling ear wires are a new replacement

Cut steel earrings were popular during the Georgian and Victorian eras   They were worn mainly in the evening when candlelight would enhance their great reflective properties.  Cut steel was a viable alternative to diamond earrings.   Today, cut steel can be worn both in the evening and afternoon.....with any wardrobe.

Earrings measure 3 1/4 inches long with ear wire     1/2 inch wide, at their widest  Total weight is 14.3 g.     9.2 dwt
