Antique Gutta Percha (Bois de Urci) Frame

Antique Gutta Percha Frame            circa. 1880                    France

Very dark brown, appears to be black gutta percha frame with ribs, flowers, and ribbons.  Wonderful craftsmanship.  No cracks or imperfections.   The easel back was missing when we purchased the frame, so we had it restrored with a metal interpretation.   The angle is adjustable.  The frame can also be hung on the wall.  Glass included.

Gutta percha is made from the sap of trees found in East India.  Gutta percha was used in the Victorian era in the making of jewelry, boxes, pipe stems and frames.

The frame will take a 6 inch high  x  4 inch wide photo.

The frame measures 10 1/2 inches in height at the center, 7 3/8 inches wide, and the weight is 1 pound 10 ounces.

In excellent condition
