Antique French Document File Book Box              Circa. 1900           France

Antique french document file box with a double book front    Made of wood and covered in leather   Titled "M. Faugiere Hypotheques (mortgages)   2 Semestre  1 Semestre  (semester)    Sides and back are black oil cloth covering cardboard     The front date of 1862 in decoration.....this box was probably made just during the turn of the 20th century in France.  The custom was to date these boxes with a decorative date.   

The leather has crackle and darkened in places  (not in the best condition)  The oil cloth has worn off at bottom back on one side   The leather tab is missing to the door of the box but it is easy to open and close the door  (and stay shut)
